Visual Arts Training
Audio description training for the visual arts aims to provide you with essential skills that can be used to make your venue and its collections more accessible to visitors. This will enable you to improve customer care in general, and in particular for visitors who are blind or partially sighted. Emphasis is given to delivering spoken descriptions in situ and building confidence in leading live tours to audiences with sight loss. Broader issues of accessibility are also considered, with the aim of maximising existing resources. The training is suitable for all types of participants, including volunteers, gallery staff and curators.
Training will cover:
- Visual impairment awareness, customer care and guiding
- The principles of description
- Describing paintings, objects and artefacts
- Using other senses to engage blind and partially sighted visitors
- Improving access to your collection, including leading an audio described tour
